General Summary

Blasts pipe to remove rust, contamination, and poly coating to prepare pipes for coating. Performs taping & coating procedures and prepares pipe for shipment.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Maintains blasting, taping and coating machinery by performing preventive maintenance, and reports repair or extensive maintenance requirements to Team Leader.
  • Breakdown, fix and reassemble .
  • Change out nozzles on blasting holes, gaskets on hoses, pipes,  to OD hose on the pots.
  • Check levels on the silos for the shots/black beauty (media).
  • Fill the pots.
  • Set up buns for different pipes.
  • Set up .
  • Clean .
  • Maintains protective abrasive hood with respirator.
  • Confers with department Team Leader to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received from production control or engineering departments.
  • Positions pipe for blasting, positions shrouds for protection, operates blasting control console to perform blasting operations per drawings and specifications.
  • Applies primer, coating, or tape per customer specifications by operating machinery and monitoring application of tape or coating.
  • Reads customer specification and drawings to determine type of coating, position of holdbacks and other specifications for setting up pipe for taping and/or coating operations.
  • Reads, understands and interprets specifications from pyrometer to determine the dew point and humidity before blasting.
  • Places end caps on pipe.
  • Removes pipe from work area and stages it for removal to yard, shipping area, or fab finishing area.
  • Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision.

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.

The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
