Shop Manager – Palmetto State Glass
Palmetto State Glass is seeking a motivated, hands‑on Fabrication Shop Manager to lead our shop and its employees in accordance with company culture, mission, vision, and values. The role oversees daily shop operations in a fast‑paced commercial glass environment, ensuring safety, productivity, quality, scheduling, and effective coordination with Project Managers. Dutiesand Responsibilities Shop Leadership & Operations
- Manage the schedule established with Project Managers and forecast workload availability and lead times.
- Oversee daily fabrication shop operations from project planning through completion.
- Lead, train, and supervise shop personnel to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers to support project schedules and priorities.
- Maintain shop organization, workflow, and cleanliness.
- Review fabrication drawings using Glazier Studio and Partner Pak, comparing them to shop drawings and field measurements.
- Maintain safety, cleanliness, and day‑to‑day operations using 5S processes.
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE, tools, and shop equipment.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the shop.
- Conduct routine quality assurance inspections and paperwork throughout fabrication processes.
- Ensure all fabricated materials meet project specifications and company standards.
- Address and resolve quality issues promptly.
- Perform bi‑weekly inventory counts.
- Manage material requisitions for assigned projects.
- Coordinate receipt, storage, and organization of glass and materials.
- Oversee loading and staging of materials for job‑site delivery.
- Confirm all materials and supplies are prepared and delivered as required.
- Complete daily shop reports and documentation.
- Provide proactive updates to Project Managers regarding progress, issues, or delays.
- Ability to lead and supervise shop employees.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and equipment.
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and work orders.
- Experience with inventory, material handling, and job staging.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Willingness to become forklift certified.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Prior experience as a Shop Foreman or Fabrication Shop Manager (commercial glass experience with doors, hardware, curtain wall, storefront, heavy glass systems, break metal, shear, metal brake, C&C Machine).
- Experience with storefront, glazing, and glass fabrication strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage employees and coordinate multiple projects.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and instructions.
- Willingness to obtain forklift certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials regularly.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work at varying heights when required.
This position requires exposure to working conditions in both cold and hot weather. The environment may contain loud noises and construction equipment. Employees are expected to wear protective and safety gear to prevent injuries and minimize exposure.
