Location: Columbia

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a z/VM & z/Linux Systems Programmer for a remote opportunity. The candidate will support and maintain enterprise z/VM and z/Linux environments, ensuring systems remain secure, stable, and highly available. This role focuses on proactive monitoring, operational support, and continuous improvement of the virtualized mainframe platform.

Required Qualifications of the z/VM & z/Linux Systems Programmer:
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field OR 4 years of job-related experience OR 2 years of related experience plus an Associate’s degree in a technical discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of IT experience, including varied programming exposure
  • Hands-on experience administering z/VM environments
  • Working knowledge of RACF security administration
  • Experience using Operations Manager
  • Experience with IBM Backup and Restore Manager
  • Experience with IBM Tape Manager
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused mindset
Preferred Skills/Experience of the z/VM & z/Linux Systems Programmer:
  • Service Now experience
  • REXX scripting
  • Experience with Git Hub
Responsibilities of the z/VM & z/Linux Systems Programmer:
  • Monitor system performance, logs, and alerts to maintain overall platform health
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for z/VM environments, including ticket resolution
  • Perform system maintenance activities such as upgrades, patching, and configuration updates
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises and readiness activities
  • Proactively identify risks and implement corrective or preventive actions
  • Communicate system status and issues effectively to stakeholders and team members
