Job Summary
The University of South Carolina’s Division of Marketing is seeking a User Experience Manager to help strategically shape the University’s digital image and ensure accurate information on its website as both strategic and technical advisor for sc.edu and campus units. As part of the digital strategy team, the manager will identify design needs, interactive requirements, web architecture and project scope. They will maintain operational continuity, mentor the user experience staff and act as backup for the senior associate director.
Key qualifications include excellent time management, organizational skills, proficiency in online content management systems, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with teams of diverse technical and communication backgrounds.
Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
- Degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, advertising, information technology systems or related field.
- Web development and project coordination experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies, content management systems, languages and best practices.
- Familiarity with Content Management System and HTML/CSS, ability to administer content including copy, images, video embed, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of analytics tools, i.e. Google Analytics.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with information architects, copywriters, front‑end developers and broad cross‑functional teams.
- Solid technical background with an ability to address accessibility and compatibility issues.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and independent self‑direction coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to work as a team player, demonstrate personal initiative and inspire colleagues.
- Ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
The User Experience Manager is charged with maintaining accessible visual continuity across sc.edu. The manager works with the digital strategy team and campus communicators to refresh and update pages within the university’s Content Management System (CMS) and assists in maintaining university‑wide tools. The manager will monitor and analyze web analytics to identify trends and inform appropriate user experience decisions.
Strategic Project ManagementThe User Experience Manager works with the team in making decisions on the university’s web strategy, managing team priorities and ensuring alignment with strategic website goals. Additionally, the manager collaborates to define requirements, project scope and content architecture for university‑wide initiatives, proactively suggesting solutions and new projects to enhance the effectiveness and impact of branded communications.
Cross‑Functional Team CollaborationLeverages strong communication skills to foster effective collaboration with various university units, ensuring a cohesive approach to digital projects and marketing initiatives. Guides content managers on web content and CMS best practices, assists with larger content strategy, helps define information architecture and provides hands‑on CMS support for unit projects. This role will communicate clearly and confidently with the team and with clients to determine needs, present ideas and accomplish projects from start to finish.
TeamManagement
The User Experience Manager coordinates the digital strategy team’s daily operations, setting deadlines and defining tasks and managing digital specialists. Assumes leadership in the absence of the Senior Associate Director.
