The Physical Therapy Assistant assists one or more Physical Therapists in evaluating and providing treatment to help patients recover from injury, disease, surgery, or other ailments. Prepares patients and equipment for therapy and implements treatment plans as instructed, including exercises, stretching maneuvers, hands‑on therapy, and equipment. Records patient reaction to treatment and provides status reports at the end of each treatment.
Requires graduation from an accredited physical therapist assistant program. Patient populations served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric for a variety of diagnoses to include but not limited to neurologic, orthopedic, post‑surgical, pediatric, medically complex, inpatient or outpatient throughout the hospital system.
Minimum Training and Education – Graduate of an accredited program of Physical Therapy Assistant and holds a current valid South Carolina license to practice.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations – Board Certified by the South Carolina State Board as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
Physical Requirements – Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, kneeling positions, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, reach overhead, repetitive motions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted. Vision, hearing, fine motor skills, stress tolerance, shift work, overtime, latex safety, respirator use, olfactory function as required.
