Job summary
:
Medical technologist support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. Prepares specimens for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, perform specialized laboratory tests, perform quality control, troubleshoot quality control errors and maintenance procedures, recognize and evaluate computer data problems, troubleshoot laboratory instruments, perform preventative maintenance, communicate technical information to medical and lay persons, assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures, participate in continuing education, recognize normal and abnormal values, and model Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities.

A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related medical or scientific discipline with 0-1 year experience.

Must have met the educational requirements for and passed a recognized Certification Examination for Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS). Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC). If not certified, must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment.

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking; climb stairs; work indoors, outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas; work in confined/cramped spaces; perform kettle positions; bend, twist, squat, pinching operations; gross motor activities with fingers and hands; firm grasping; fine manipulation; reach overhead; perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. Ability to fully use both legs; use lower extremities for balance and coordination;

reach in all directions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted; lift/lower objects 50 lbs from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted; lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force. Ability to maintain vision, hearing, tactile, olfactory, and respirator qualifications. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, and stressful situations.

Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline.

Experience:

None. Certification:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification preferred at the time of hire, however, if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
