Job Overview

Medical technologist support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. Prepares specimens for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, perform specialized laboratory tests, perform quality control, troubleshoot quality control errors and maintenance procedures, recognize and evaluate computer data problems, troubleshoot laboratory instruments, perform preventative maintenance, communicate technical information to medical and lay persons, assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures, participate in continuing education, recognize normal and abnormal values, and model Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares specimens for testing, performs routine laboratory tests, performs specialized laboratory tests, performs quality control, troubleshoots quality control errors, performs preventative maintenance, communicates technical information to medical and lay persons, assists with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures, participates in continuing education, recognizes normal and abnormal values, and models Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related medical or scientific discipline with 0-1 year experience.
  • Must have met educational requirements and passed a recognized Certification Examination for Medical Technologist (MLS or CLS).
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC). If not certified, must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment.
Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, from kneeling positions, bending waist, twisting waist, squatting, pinching, gross motor and fine manual tasks, reach overhead, repetitive motions, maintain 20/40 vision, hearing, and work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, and respirator use as required.
