Lexington Medical Center is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform daily lab tests, patient interviewing, and phlebotomy. The successful candidate will be responsible for compliance of the entire lab, including QA and COLA requirements and guidelines, and will seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies.
Job Summary: Perform daily lab tests, patient interviewing, and phlebotomy. Responsible for compliance of the entire lab to include QA and COLA requirements and guidelines. Seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies. To procure and process patient specimens for laboratory testing, perform tests accurately in a timely fashion, accurately report test results, detecting and managing basic problems as they occur.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Two-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, biological science, or chemistry from a national or international accredited educational institution. Transcript must include a minimum of 60 semester hours with 25 hours of coursework in clinical laboratory science, chemical, and biological science required. Must include a clinical laboratory rotation in immunohematology, chemistry, hematology, and microbiology.

None. - Required Certifications/Licensure: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) or an equivalent state or governmental certification from one of the following:
National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), American Medical Technologies (AMT), American Association of Bioanalysts Board of Registry (AAB).
Essential Functions:
- Perform manual laboratory testing (no or little automation).
- Perform automated laboratory testing (requiring instrumentation to complete).
- Collect specimens:
May be required to perform venipuncture to include capillary punctures for blood specimens from patients of various ages requiring developmentally appropriate techniques. - Perform established testing according to accreditation requirements and LMC Laboratory established procedures.
- Evaluate specimen preparation and handling for test analysis.
- Select, perform, evaluate, and monitor the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques.
- Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products.
- Recognize and react to indicators of malfunctions; locate and implement corrections; verify correct instrument operation using protocols and quality control checks.
- Recognize normal and abnormal values.
- Maintain instruments to include daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance.
- Identify the causes of common problems and make simple repairs.
- Maintain proper records for quality control reports, etc.
- Perform correct notification of abnormal results per policy.
- Achieve and maintain competency for waived, moderate, and potentially selected high complexity testing.
