Laboratory Specialist II
Department: COP Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences
Salary: $14 - $20 per hour (based on experience)
Location: Columbia, College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina
Hours Per Week: 37.5 (8:30 am – 5:00 pm)
Job Summary: The UofSC and Dr. Yangmei Li are seeking a research technician to conduct laboratory research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The candidate will synthesize peptides and peptide‑derived molecules, test compounds, collect and report biological activity data, document experimental data, and assist with general laboratory duties including instrument maintenance, safety, and cleaning.
- Perform chemical synthesis of peptides and peptide‑derived molecules.
- Test compounds and collect biological activity data, and report experimental results.
- Document data from laboratory experiments.
- Assist with laboratory duties, including maintenance of instruments and apparatus, laboratory safety, and laboratory cleaning.
- Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biological Science is required. Experience in a research laboratory is preferred. Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, and materials; safe use and handling of chemicals; understanding and following detailed technical instructions; and effective communication with team members are essential.
