Clinical Counselor

Under the general direction of the Sr. Psychologist, Supv/Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, the Clinical Counselor works in Mental Health Services. The Clinical Counselor applies counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license, to improve an incarcerated individual's mental health and the effectiveness of preventative skills and behaviors developed for wellness. The Clinical Counselor works preventatively with the incarcerated population including those not in the mental health delivery system to provide incarcerated patient access, outreach, and prevention wellness strategies.

• Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science. Applicants who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Science may be admitted into the examination and may be appointed but must secure a valid license within four years of appointment; however, an individual can be employed only to the extent necessary to be eligible for licensure plus one year.
• Possession of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or psychotherapy that meets the requirements stipulated in Business and Professional Code 4999.32.

• Job may be extended or become permanent.
• Potential referral bonus of $5,000 for eligible CDCR/CCHCS employees, with employment retention requirement of 90 days.
