Position: Sergeant (#011835) Goodman Correctional Inst, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 1
Location: Columbia

Responsibilities

  • Assist Contraband Sergeant in investigations – internal affairs, SLED and Division of Security.
  • Assist Contraband Sergeant with offender drug testing.
  • Record all contraband and maintain all forms and drug testing supplies.
  • Test illegal drugs as to substance and identification – VALTOX test – NK test.
  • Maintain contraband drop box.
  • Drug test YOIP releases, random drug screens, pre-release offenders.
  • Destroy illegal drugs according to SCDC policy.
  • Prepare all monthly, quarterly drug and contraband reports.
  • First responder Goodman inmate apprehension.
  • Serve illegal paperwork as it comes through the Warden’s Office.
  • Give all contraband money to the business office.

Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements (State of South Carolina)

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

Minimum Requirements (SCDC)
  • A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for one-half of the required experience.
  • Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
