We are seeking an experienced and strategic Civil Design Team Leader to oversee our civil engineering design operations. This leadership role is responsible for guiding design standards, optimizing CAD processes, managing team workload, ensuring QA/QC compliance, and service as Engineer of Record on assigned projects. The Civil Design Team Leader plays a critical role in mentoring staff, supporting business development initiatives, and aligning design operations with company growth objectives.

- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to monitor, evaluate and improve design and CAD processes to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across offices.
- Establish and implement best practices for civil design standards, drafting procedures, and quality control protocols.
- Assist Project Managers with QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and client expectations.
- Oversee project scheduling, staffing plans, and workload distribution to ensure deadlines are met while maintaining quality and team balance.
- Serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects, assuming responsibility for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Branch Manager to proactively manage project risks and resolve technical challenges.
- Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as required.
- Teach, mentor, and develop less experienced engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and leadership development.
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and training initiatives for civil design staff.
- Assist the company with business development initiatives, including proposal support, client meetings, and strategic growth planning.
- Provide leadership input to Principals and Branch Managers regarding staffing needs, operational improvements, and long-term department planning.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Principals and Branch Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design, including:
- Water and sanitary sewer systems,
- Roadway design for City and County projects,
- Civil site design and drainage.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in South Carolina (required);
North Carolina (preferred or ability to obtain). - Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and water modeling software.
- Demonstrated experience leading design teams and managing technical staff.
- Proven experience serving as Engineer of Record.
- Thorough understanding of state and local regulations and permitting processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a high-performance environment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
