Shaw Industries Corporate Engineering (CE) provides engineering support for the corporation’s manufacturing, distribution, sales and administrative facilities. The department provides feasibility studies, high‑level budgets, project development, detailed cost estimates, engineering, design, project management, consulting, and CAD services. CE has specialists to serve the needs of each segment of the business. Staff include mechanical, electrical, & civil engineers, project managers, interior designers, and CAD designers, as well as administrative staff.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Project Development and Administration

  • Develop and execute capital and expensed projects, sometimes large and complex, with detailed scopes of work, detailed schedules, and appropriations‑grade budgets.

  • Solicit detailed stakeholder design criteria and translate the same into actionable technical designs, plans, and scope elements to ensure achievement of project objectives.

  • Partner with project stakeholders to develop project options and proposals to facilitate decision‑making by business leaders.

  • Develop and submit detailed documentation required to solicit project approval through online project administration software tools.

  • Maintain project files and publish periodic project reports.

  • Project Management and Execution

  • Consistently apply technical standards, engineering best practices, project management processes, and project management tools, and champion the use of the same with facility‑level engineering teams.

  • Track spending and maintain control of project cost performance. Act as the primary point of accountability for adherence to the project budgets.

  • Manage onsite contractor activities, ensuring consistent enforcement of regulatory, corporate and plant policies such as safety, ethics, environmental, etc.

  • Minimize project‑related disruptions to normal plant activities and coordinate necessary disruptions with plant management in advance.

  • Perform project‑related quality control functions, inspecting vendor‑supplied equipment and construction work to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, timeline requirements, and other requirements as defined in contract packages.

  • Provide an active onsite resource for project commissioning, startup, and optimization.

Technical Expertise
  • Possess strong knowledge of the design of electrical systems in an industrial environment including 12470 Volt, 4160 Volt, and 480 Volt power distribution.

  • Possess strong working knowledge of and adhere to the requirements of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 70B (Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance), and NESC/ANSI C2 (National Electrical Safety Code).

  • Develop and retain process knowledge and related manufacturing expertise necessary to successfully execute projects and job assignments.

  • Collaborate with facility teams, technical teams, and other engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and business opportunities.

  • Provide coaching and support for engineers and other facility‑level technical resources.
