Location: Pelzer

Vertiv/L&T is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to lead the structural design of customized AC and DC Power Modules, IT Modules, and Data Centers across IT, Telecom, and Industrial markets. The engineer will develop designs in compliance with local and international building codes, including seismic, thermal, and structural standards, while collaborating with cross-functional teams and manufacturing facilities to produce detailed workshop drawings.

This role also involves participating in Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, ensuring structural integrity, quality, and adherence to project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead structural design efforts in pre-sales and post-sales stages, providing conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal building codes through coordination with local authorities.
  • Design mechanical components including lifting points, anchoring points, flashings, and gutters.
  • Produce detailed Schematic Design (SD), Detail Design (DD), and Construction Drawings (CD) for structural elements.
  • Review and approve structural product submittals.
  • Perform static and dynamic (blast impact) calculations.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers on thermal transfer calculations, fire ratings, and thermal bridges.
  • Design foundation systems and define material specifications for structural and finish elements.
  • Manage and coordinate contracted engineering teams for civil, mechanical, and structural calculations and documentation.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Specify welding procedures, inspection standards, and NDE (nondestructive examination) methods.
  • Develop and provide dimensional test and structural load test procedures.
  • Coordinate architectural and civil design efforts.
  • Conduct quality control and support on-site module repairs and fabrication validation.
  • Travel to fabrication facilities for design validation, audits, and evaluations.
  • Communicate directly with customers to provide innovative, cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality and reliability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical/structural engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of local and national building codes.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
  • Creative problem‑solving skills with a focus on cost‑effective solutions without compromising quality or reliability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with proven leadership, project management, and team coordination skills.
