We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Traffic Engineering Project Manager to lead traffic engineering studies, design projects, and client engagements. The ideal candidate holds a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license and brings deep expertise in traffic operations, safety, and planning—along with strong project management experience.
This role involves managing complex traffic engineering assignments, mentoring junior staff, coordinating with agency partners, and delivering high-quality technical work. The candidate will also support business development and help shape the growth of the traffic engineering practice.
Key Responsibilities Traffic Engineering & Technical Leadership- Lead the development of traffic studies, including:
- Traffic impact analyses (TIA)
- Safety and operational analyses
- Signal timing and optimization
- Traffic modeling (using tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, SIDRA, etc.)
- Oversee signal design, signing & marking plans, traffic control plans, and ITS-related tasks.
- Provide QA/QC review of technical documents, reports, plans, and calculations.
- Ensure adherence to agency standards, including MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements.
- Manage all aspects of project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with internal staff and subconsultants.
- Communicate regularly with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare project work plans, staffing plans, and risk management strategies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients.
- Support proposal development and participate in interviews and presentations.
- Leverage professional relationships to help expand traffic engineering services.
- Identify new opportunities with municipalities, DOTs, MPOs, and private-sector clients.
- Mentor and guide junior traffic engineers and planners.
- Provide technical training and contribute to group knowledge sharing.
- Promote a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (state-specific or ability to obtain through reciprocity).
- 8‑12+ years of experience in traffic engineering and project management.
- Proficiency with industry traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of MUTCD, HCM methodologies, and state DOT procedures.
- Demonstrated experience managing traffic engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with state DOTs or major municipalities.
- Familiarity with signal system design, ITS, access management, or safety engineering.
- PTOE certification (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) preferred.
- Experience in the consulting engineering industry.
