The R&D Tire Engineering Technician provides technical and logistical support to engineers and chemists within the R&D Center. This role is responsible for inventory management, shipping and receiving, test preparation, experimental tire builds, and light engineering work to support tire development. The position involves hands-on work with equipment, materials, and test sites, and includes some travel as needed.
Responsibilities- Maintain inventory and storage of R&D tires and wheels, including on-site and consignment locations
- Procure and maintain tools, materials, and equipment required for R&D projects
- Conduct and support experimental tire builds
- Manage all shipping and receiving activities for the R&D Center
- Procure competitor tires as required for benchmarking and testing
- Assist engineers with setup and execution of tire field testing and proving grounds programs
- Perform light engineering duties such as tire measurements, data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Assist in the scheduling and logistics of on-site and off-site track testing
- Ensure compliance with operational standards, maintain accurate records, and keep documentation up to date
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or vocational school diploma required
- Associate degree in a technical field preferred
- Prior experience in a similar role is highly desirable
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with inventory management and spreadsheets
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
- Mechanically inclined with experience handling technical equipment
- Results-driven and self-motivated
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Exposure to CAD software is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally
- Associate degree or technical certification in automotive technology, engineering, or a related field
- Experience with tire service equipment or R&D testing environments
- Knowledge of automotive or tire manufacturing industry practices
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks
- Comfortable working in garage, warehouse, and test track environments
Work is performed in a combination of office, lab, and field/test environments. Some travel to track testing sites and supplier locations may be required.
