Overview
In the Concrete, Steel, and Cement (CSC) Physical Testing unit at the Office of Materials and Research (OMR), performs routine testing on concrete cylinders, structural steel materials, and cementitious materials used in highway construction. Ensures testing is performed in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and SC test methods. Documents test results on appropriate reports and performs related tasks in AWP, Projectwise, and other applicable reporting applications.
Responsibilities- Perform routine testing on concrete cylinders, structural steel materials, and cementitious materials used in highway construction in the CSC Physical Testing unit.
- Ensure testing is performed in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and SC test methods.
- Document test results on appropriate reports and perform related tasks in AWP, Projectwise, and other applicable reporting applications.
- Assist with calibrations, verifications, and maintenance on testing equipment to comply with the AASHTO Accreditation Program.
- Participate in accreditation assessment activities and proficiency sample programs as needed.
- Train to perform more complex testing on cement, fly ash, and non-routine materials.
- Train to assist with handling, storage, and disposal of chemical waste related to laboratory testing.
- Assist with administrative duties in the unit as needed. Assist in interpreting and analyzing data obtained from test results. Assist with reviewing manufacturer certifications for materials and products related to the CSC Unit. Assist department personnel with materials related issues. Perform other related duties as assigned.
- A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
