The Industrial Engineer performs technical and analytical duties using lean principles to improve the process flow and increase production while maintaining the costing/route system in the ERP system. Diagnose and remedy manufacturing process and product problems by leading other engineers or employees to quickly resolve issues.
How You Will Help- Performs continuous improvements assignments to improve operating performance and reduce waste, delays, and costs
- Improve material flow, material handling, and/or fabrication methods
- Improve current plant and equipment layout and generate new layouts as needed
- Research and implement changes based upon leading edge technologies and engineering principles
- Generate engineering time standards to support the standard cost system for labor and material
- Conduct time studies and make recommendations for process efficiency improvements
- Facilitate and lead rapid improvement events in machining and assembly operations that maximize material, equipment, information, and personnel productivity
- Manage capital projects, including specifications, justifications, installations, acceptance, and validation as needed
- Develop documentation of overall Continuous improvement activities including accomplishments, participation, projected activities, and anticipated needs
- Support cost reduction projects using DMAIC Lean Six Sigma Methodology and other Lean Manufacturing skill sets
- Lead Kaizen events to improve production related bottlenecks and/or improvement ideas
- Maintains ERP data sets for cost generation and support of routes generated to set standard cost
- Perform special assignments related to cost justifications for new equipment and cost realization data after installation to realize actual benefits
- Generate Power BI reports as needed for personal and departmental use for displaying information retrieved from ERP system
- Mentor entry level staff and provide guidance for improving their performance
- Generate flow diagrams/value stream maps of current processes and new ones as needed
- Perform special assignments as needed (environmental support, Report generation, Process area expertise, etc.)
- Support TWI training activities as needed
- Participates in cost reduction projects to improve company profitability
- Supports Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Product Development, and Purchasing Departments
- Responsible for participating in Product Development activities
- Lead design, purchase, and validation of new equipment/facilities as needed
- Recommend innovative technology for equipment, software, and processes under development
- Participate on brainstorming sessions and design reviews on proposed new processes or major equipment
- Participate on Product development teams to bring latest ideas to market
- Evaluate and propose new process design for improving process, reducing costs, or improving quality of product
- Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain vigilance for any hazardous conditions or practices in the workplace and immediately report any unsafe condition or practice to your supervisor.
- Performs other duties as directed
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or related field
- 5-10+ years of Manufacturing Experience
- Six Sigma Certification
- Working knowledge of technical writing
- Solid understanding of mathematical calculations
- Knowledge of drafting and design work
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ASI, D365 and Six Sigma
- Working knowledge of ERP system related to costing and routes
