Senior Civil Engineer Department Lead

Tetra Tech has a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer ready to take the next step in their career. We are seeking a Senior Level Engineer/Project Manager to join our existing regional engineering team by starting and leading a civil engineering group and practice in the South Carolina area. This “start up” will have the regional support of our GA, NC, and VA offices as well as being a vital part of Tetra Tech.

This position will be part of a dynamic regional team of engineers, scientists, and technicians engaged in a variety of projects providing planning, design, and engineering services focused on stormwater management, water/wastewater infrastructure design and improvements, land development, and/or construction services in the water resources area of practice in civil engineering.

• Act as EOR/PE in responsible charge for various civil engineering projects.
• Act as Project Manager in multi-disciplined projects in the preparation of construction drawings, details, specifications, calculations, and engineers' estimates of probable construction costs.
• Provide (or lead) design, analysis, and oversight in various areas:
  • Stormwater management facilities for municipalities and other entities.
  • Sustainable green infrastructure, including subsurface storage and infiltration, bioretention basins, bioswales, green streets, and constructed wetlands.
  • Drainage projects across the spectrum of civil engineering.
  • Natural resources mitigation and restoration, i.e. stream restoration, wetland restoration, living shoreline restoration, etc.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce grading plans, alignments, profiles, cut‑fill volumes, surfaces, pipe networks, etc.
• Provide oversight and guidance in all areas of permitting to include varied local and state regulatory processes for permitting of stormwater and/or wastewater projects and local, state, and federal permitting guidance related to land disturbance, natural resources impacts, and flood mitigation compliance.
• Ultimately lead a team of engineers, CAD professionals, and/or GIS professionals.
• Provide leadership and mentorship through exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Provide insight and direction on projects based on an intermediate knowledge of surveying and use of topographic data.
• Possess a strong work ethic and problem‑solving skills.
• Engage with clients and professional organizations on behalf of Tetra Tech to foster exposure and growth of our expertise and experience.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, environmental engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 10‑15 years of progressive experience in land development, water resources, and/or utility design projects. Less may be considered with an advanced degree.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 25 %.
• Current registration as South Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) is required. Ability to obtain additional target states within 3 months (GA, NC, VA).
• Current certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is desired.
• Current certification as Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is desired.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

• Ability to work well in a professional and team‑oriented environment, as well as independently.
• Strong organizational skills, excellent leadership skills, and client focus.
• Basic computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Advanced proficiency in 1D/2D hydrologic and hydraulic modeling is desired. ESRI GIS experience is a plus.
