AboutThe Role
As a Principal Chemical Engineer, you will lead laboratory operations in a regulated nuclear industry environment. You will ensure the integrity of chemical testing processes, qualify new laboratory equipment, maintain procedural compliance and manage the laboratory information system. You will report to the Quality Manager and be located at Columbia, SC. You will support this role 100% onsite.
Key Responsibilities- Develop chemical testing methodologies observing applicable regulatory and internal standards.
- Ensure testing processes are repeatable, and compliant with industry expectations.
- Interpret complex chemical data; provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support.
- Qualify new laboratory instrumentation and tooling.
- Lead efforts in equipment selection, installation, calibration, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with vendors and company partners to ensure equipment meets technical and operational requirements.
- Oversee and maintain laboratory procedures, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Ensure all lab activities align with the site's Quality Assurance Program and regulatory commitments.
- Improve programs to enhance lab efficiency and data integrity.
- Administer and maintain the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Ensure accurate sample tracking, data entry, reporting, and traceability.
- Train and support lab personnel in system usage and ensure compliance with data management protocols.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience in a regulated laboratory environment.
- 1+ years of experience with Lawware or other lab management software systems.
- Proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., Mass Spec, GC, HPLC, FTIR).
- Experience in the nuclear industry, including familiarity with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and ISO 9001 standards.
- Experience supporting nuclear facility operations, component qualification or environmental monitoring.
- Project management experience in lab modernization or equipment qualification.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
