Job Summary:
The Department of English in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina’s flagship campus in Columbia invites applications for two (2) full‑time, professional‑track faculty positions at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. These are 9‑month appointments with full benefits and a teaching load of eight courses across the academic year. Initial appointments may be for one or three years and are renewable, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
Professional‑track faculty may also become eligible for promotion and for renewable contracts of up to five years in length. The successful candidate will teach a 4:4 load of English 101 and/or English 102 with the possibility of other English courses, dependent upon the needs of the department. With this hire we seek to expand our professional-track faculty to provide excellent, engaging, and effective instruction of first-year composition.

QualificationsRequired
Education and Experience:
- Candidates must hold a terminal degree in English or a related discipline, completed by August 15, 2026, and have a minimum of three years of experience teaching English at the college level, with demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year composition.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ability to teach business and technical writing is highly desirable.
