Job Summary

The Center for American Civic Leadership and Public Discourse is building a cohort of permanent and visiting faculty to assist in its research and teaching needs in fields centered on themes such as ordered liberty, rule of law, democratic self‑governance, justice, and unalienable rights. These scholars will promote the dialogic, cultural, and civic literacies that are essential to a well‑ordered and flourishing polity.

This position comes with a 2:2 teaching load; scholars who can teach courses required by the State’s REACH Act are particularly desired. Visiting Assistant Professors appointed in the Center are expected to devote significant time to their proposed research. They are also encouraged to attend or participate in various activities of the Center, including faculty‑student seminars, colloquia, and public lectures.

Qualifications

Visiting Assistant Professors are required to have a Ph.D in a relevant field awarded within the last three years (no earlier than September 1, 2022). Applicants will be considered from a wide range of fields including, but not limited to, philosophy, history, political science, religious studies, and English literature.

Special Instructions To Applicant
  • a curriculum vitae
  • a scholarly paper written in the past three years
  • a statement (no more than 1,500 words) describing the proposed research
  • contact information for two references
Priority Consideration

For priority consideration, application materials must be received by January 15, 2026; applications will continue to be reviewed until positions are filled. Awards will be announced in March 2025 or earlier.
