Position Title:

Head of School

Contract Term: 12 months – Flexible Calendar/Hours July 1–June 30

Salary:
Commensurate with Education/Experience

Summary of Position/Purpose

To provide the leadership, management, and guidance necessary to administer and supervise all programs, policies, people, and activities of the school. Responsible for ensuring high quality educational experiences and services for the students and parents in a safe and enriching environment. Working under a system of policy governance, the Head of School is charged with assuring that in all that the school does, the staff is always focused on the mission of the school, while adhering to all of the school’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or higher; focus in Educational Leadership or Administration is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years as a successful classroom teacher
  • Minimum of 3 years as a successful administrator
  • Prior experience as an assistant or lead administrator preferred

The FHWA Head of School should possess a strong commitment to continuous learning and a passion for education. They should possess strong leadership ability, and excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills as to positively impact staff, students, and parents. The Head of School should also set a positive example with the school community.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Student Performance
    • Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement in line with the school’s mission and SCISA/Cognia accreditation standards.
    • Ensure the academic programs meet or exceed yearly goals set by the SCISA/Cognia and Board accountability requirements.
    • Work with Area principals and the Guidance Counselor to monitor progress of all students.
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Lead teachers in developing a healthy school culture aligned with the mission and values of the school.
    • Create a culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration among staff, teachers, students, and families.
    • Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that objectives are met.
    • Monitor the student enrollment process to ensure that the school achieves target enrollment projections.
    • Supervise and maintain curriculum(s), schedules, records, and school calendars in alignment with the laws of the state, accreditation standards, and policies of the school.
    • Ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, public, and property.
    • Ensure appropriate standards of student behavior, performance, and attendance.
    • Ensure all disciplinary issues are addressed fairly and immediately.
    • Maintain accreditation through all application entities.
  • Instructional Leadership
    • Manage, evaluate, and develop teachers.
    • Ensure use of effective teaching methodologies and practices, including current computer technology.
    • Plan and work with teachers to improve their teaching practices through coaching, professional development, modeling, and planning.
    • Provide high-quality curricular training and resources to staff.
    • Foster a culture of professionalism, cooperation, and Christian love.
    • Supervise and mentor all teachers, assigning a personal teacher-mentor for all first year teachers.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures in the operation of the school (car lines, bell schedules, etc.).
    • Develop and implement the budget with the assistance of the Director of Finance to meet targeted requirements.
    • Oversee routine facilities maintenance.
    • Ensure compliance of all local, state, and other regulations.
    • Regularly monitor security features of school and instill proper procedure in case of event(s) with teachers and staff; consult law enforcement, as needed.
    • Regularly prepare reports and meet with the School Board to inform of progress as well as highlights of students and teachers.
  • Personnel
    • Recruit, screen, and interview prospective employees.
    • Work with Area principals to determine and then ultimately assign personnel to suitable teaching areas.
