JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:
ML Student Tutor

FLSA: Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision instructs English language learners in academic and social skills to ensure that individual student needs, interests and abilities are met. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Spartanburg School District Two.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders to foster student learning.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students; supervises students in classroom activities and in other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society.
  • Assesses student’s English language proficiency in a timely manner.
  • Develops appropriate individualized learning plans with each student that includes language goals for the year.
  • Teaches concepts and skills that facilitate learning and contribute to students’ academic and personal development.
  • Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers concerning appropriate accommodations; maintains documentation of communication and collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Assists classroom teachers by modifying instructional tasks as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progress and recommends remedial action as needed; provides appropriate documentation of all assessments; evaluates contributions to group projects as appropriate.
  • Assists school personnel in providing professional learning experiences for parents, teachers and staff.
  • Facilitates communication between school personnel and parents while coordinating translations as needed.
  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
  • Selects, requests and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment and tools.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, and personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students’ progress.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Teaching certification preferred.
  • Background and training in education.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
