Job Description

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Job Summary

The job of Occupational Therapist is done for the purposes of assessing students’ functional development level, providing appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives, and providing recommendations for program development and student placement.

Reports To: Executive Director of Special Education

Essential Functions
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and /or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or ensuring that state mandates are achieved.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. quantity report, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  • Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques assessment tools and methods, community resources, et.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
  • Screens students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.
  • Assesses students’ fine motor and development skills (e.g. visual perceptual-motor, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; and using pertinent software applications.

Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities and stages of child/adolescent development.

Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Physical Requirements
  • School-based setting, working in classrooms, therapy rooms, and other school environments.
  • May require travel between schools within the district.
  • Ability to lift, position, or assist students as needed for therapy activities.
  • Ability to move about school buildings, bend, kneel, and engage in physical activities with students.
Terms of Employment

190 Days;
Salary based on District Scale for OT/PT/Speech

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
