Middle/High School English Teacher
Reports to: Academic Coordinator and Director of Academics
Status: Full-time (Middle School and/or Upper School)
FLSA: Exempt (Typical for teaching roles)

Position Summary
Trinity Collegiate School seeks a dynamic, student-centered English Teacher to serve students in the Middle School and/or High School divisions. The ideal candidate is passionate about literature and writing, skilled in building strong readers and communicators, and committed to academic excellence and student growth. This teacher will work closely with the Academic Coordinator and Director of Academics to deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned with Trinity’s mission and academic expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruction and Curriculum
  • Teach English/Language Arts courses in Middle School and/or High School as assigned (e.g., English 6–12, Literature,
  • Composition, Honors/AP as applicable).
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, discussion
  • skills, and writing across modes (argumentative, analytical, narrative, research).
  • Design and implement units, assessments, rubrics, and learning experiences aligned with school standards and course objectives.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varied learner needs while maintaining appropriate rigor and clear expectations.
  • Integrate instructional technology and digital tools to support learning and student creativity.
  • Writing, Speaking, and Skill Development
  • Teach and reinforce the full writing process: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revision, editing, and publication.
  • Provide frequent, meaningful feedback on student writing and speaking performance.
  • Support research skills, citation practices, academic integrity, and responsible use of sources.
  • Encourage structured discussion and presentation skills through seminars, debates, and student-led conversations.

Assessment and Student Growth

  • Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and track student progress.
  • Maintain accurate grade records and provide timely communication to students and families regarding performance and expectations.
  • Provide support for struggling students through targeted interventions, conferencing, and collaboration with academic support personnel.

Classroom Culture and Student Support

  • Create a respectful, structured learning environment that supports high expectations and student confidence.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, reinforcing Trinity’s values, character expectations, and community standards.
  • Partner with parents/guardians and colleagues to promote student success academically and socially.

School Community & Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and required training.
  • Contribute to school life through advisory, supervision duties, events, and community programs as assigned.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with parents/guardians, students, and colleagues.
  • Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Academic Coordinator and Director of Academics to strengthen curriculum alignment, vertical writing expectations, and student achievement.
  • Partner with colleagues across disciplines to support writing across the curriculum and literacy development school wide.

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in Middle School and/or High School settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to a mission-driven school environment and professional growth.
  • Preferred
  • Master’s degree in English, Education, Reading/Literacy, or related field.
  • Independent school experience; experience with Honors/AP (if applicable to assigned courses).
  • Experience with writing workshop, Socratic seminar, project-based learning, and research writing instruction.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and supporting students with varied learning needs.
