Middle School Teacher (Grades 6–7) — Advanced Literature & Advanced Geography (Full-Time)

Position Type: Full-Time, 10-month faculty appointment
Department: Middle School / Humanities
Reports To:Director of Academics (or Division Director); collaborates with Academic Leadership Team;
Head of School

Position Summary
Trinity Collegiate School seeks a dynamic, student-centered educator to teach Advanced Literature and Advanced Geography to 6th and 7th grade students. This full-time faculty member will deliver rigorous, engaging instruction that builds strong reading, writing, critical-thinking, research, and global-awareness skills—while supporting the social-emotional growth of early adolescents in a mission-driven school community.

Primary Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach 6th & 7th Grade Advanced Literature and Advanced Geography using best practices aligned with school standards and goals.
  • Design and deliver lessons that emphasize:
    • Close reading, analysis, and interpretation of complex texts
    • Academic writing (argumentative, analytical, and narrative as appropriate)
    • Vocabulary development and grammar in context
    • Research skills, source evaluation, and clear citation practices
    • Geographic thinking: spatial reasoning, physical and human geography, culture, economy, and global interdepend en
  • Differentiate instruction for advanced learners while supporting varied learning needs within an accelerated course environment.
  • Use data and student work to guide instruction, enrichment, and intervention.

Assessment & Feedback

  • Create meaningful assessments (formative and summative) that measure mastery and growth.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate grade records.
  • Communicate progress regularly through conferences, reports, and parent contact.

Student Support & Classroom Culture

  • Build a respectful, structured, and encouraging classroom environment.
  • Support student habits of success: organization, responsibility, academic integrity, and self-advocacy.
  • Serve as an advisor (if assigned) and actively contribute to the grade-level team.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary planning and curriculum alignment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Uphold Trinity’s expectations for professionalism, confidentiality, and positive community engagement.
  • Contribute to co-curricular life through duties, clubs, activities, or coaching (as assigned/available).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/Language Arts, Geography, History, Social Studies, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Demonstrated success teaching middle school students and/or advanced coursework.
  • Strong content knowledge in literature, writing instruction, and geography/social studies.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively and build strong student relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with honors/advanced learners and differentiated instruction.
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, Socratic discussion, project-based learning, and/or meaningful technology integration.
