Overview
The Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Health Science at Benedict College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Environmental Health Science beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will support the continued growth of Benedict College's EHAC-accredited EHS program.
We are seeking individuals with strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service to the community and the College. Candidates should be able to teach a range of introductory and upper-level courses such as:
Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Epidemiology, Public Health Policy, Environmental Health Management, Research Methods in Environmental Health, Solid & Hazardous Waste Control, Industrial Hygiene, Infectious Disease Control. Desired areas of research expertise include, but are not limited to:
Environmental pollution and health disparities, climate change and human health, water and air quality management, food safety and security, occupational health and safety, infectious disease prevention and control, and environmental health policy and advocacy. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the Benedict College Mission. A doctoral degree in Environmental Health Science or related field is required.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Science or closely related field, or Ph.D. in another field with relevant work experience in Environmental Health Science. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential as an effective instructor and student mentor, and be able to obtain funding to support an undergraduate research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor, mentor, and have an established research agenda.

Responsibilities- Teach lower and upper-level environmental health science lecture and laboratory courses, as well as general education courses, that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department;
- Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the department's planning and growth;
- Advise students and hold weekly office hours;
- Establish an active undergraduate research program;
- Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession
- Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;
- Effective instructional delivery and use of instructional technology;
- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
