Overview

The Department of Sociology at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2026. We seek candidates with expertise in the areas of socially informed artificial intelligence and/or data science. We view these areas broadly to include the effects in society and their production and development, and we welcome candidates from a full spectrum of methodological orientations.

This position is part of a cluster of targeted hires supported by a broader presidential hiring initiative, which will offer a cohort of incoming scholars focusing on these themes, enhancing sociology’s contributions to this initiative.

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teach, contribute to departmental service, and mentor graduate students in our Ph.D. program.
