Assistant Professor – Discipline‑Based Education Research (DBER)
Faculty position in the Department of Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.
Job Summary9‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning August 16, 2026. The faculty member will conduct research and teach in the area of Discipline‑Based Education Research (DBER) with a focus on Psychology discipline‑specific teaching and learning.
RequiredEducation and Experience
• Ph.D. in Psychology, in a subfield that complements the department’s existing areas (Clinical‑Community Psychology, School Psychology, Quantitative Psychology, Cognitive and Neural Sciences) by the start date.
• Demonstrated record of high‑impact research productivity and an established research program focused on Teaching and Learning in Psychology.
• Comprehensive understanding of best practices in the scholarship of teaching and learning as applied to the psychology discipline.
• Commitment to undergraduate research and mentoring.
• Interest in innovative curriculum design and delivery.
• Support for inclusive and authentic learning and assessment.
• Knowledge of science communication, graduate education, mentorship in teaching, augmented and virtual reality in STEM, and faculty development.
• Seek external funding to support research.
• Contribute to the broader academic missions through undergraduate and graduate teaching, including courses related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
• Maintain a comprehensive research program focused on Teaching and Learning in Psychology.
• Support inclusive, authentic, and engaging learning environments within the academic unit.
