Under limited supervision, collaborates with teachers in the instructional program of the elementary school to plan and implement effective instructional strategies and materials; analyzes assessment data and serves as the school staff development coordinator. Reports to the assigned Principal.
Essential Job Functions- Assists the principal in assessing, coordinating and improving the instructional program of the assigned school
- Serves as a resource to the principal, teachers, parents and others concerned with the instructional program by aiding in selecting and evaluating instructional methods and materials, suggesting methods appropriate to individual needs, and answering questions about the school program and instructional policy matters.
- Coordinates and conducts staff development on the school and district level.
- Plans and implements new programs or procedures on the school and district level.
- Encourages teachers to use new methods and materials through demonstrations and/or modeling.
- Works with teachers in assessing problem areas and finding appropriate solutions.
- Develops and coordinates a system of distribution for curriculum resource materials.
- Assesses students for appropriate placement.
- Conducts or assists teaches with the diagnosis of students who appear to have special needs.
- Interprets tests results to teachers, parents and students, and uses data for strengthening the instructional program on a school, class and individual student level.
- Instructs and assists teachers in incorporating the computer and other technology into the instructional program.
- Serves as contact person for textbook evaluation on the school and district level.
- Serves as contact person for Student Accountability System.
- Coordinates and/or participates in special programs, projects or events as required.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on various staff committees as required.
- Operates various types of machinery and equipment including a computer, printer, copier, laminating machine, fax machine, audio-visual equipment, tape player, book binder, various curriculum-specific equipment or instruments, etc.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Training and ExperienceRequires a Bachelor's degree in early childhood or elementary education supplemented by a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in the elementary school, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
Special RequirementsRequires possession of a S.C. certification in early childhood or elementary education.

Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds).

Has knowledge of and skill in developing effecting instructional strategies and materials for early childhood and elementary programs. Is able to establish and maintain positive relationships and work effectively with adults and students. Is able to recognize signs of learning, physical, mental and social disabilities and take appropriate action.
Is able to provide assistance, support and/or skills development opportunities to parents as required. Is able to perform job tasks professionally in an environment where discrimination and other public issues are constant concerns. Has knowledge of and is able to use modern office practices and equipment, including computers. Has knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling; has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations.
