The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The role is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, with a starting salary commensurate with qualifications. The position begins on August 16, 2026 and is open until filled, with applications due by March 24, 2026

- Provide visionary leadership that inspires faculty, staff, and students to pursue academic and research excellence.
- Lead recruitment and retention of high‑impact faculty, including four additional tenured positions.
- Drive modernization of curricula, creating timely courses in partnership with other units.
- Champion multidisciplinary research initiatives that attract federal, state, and industry funding.
- Leverage the university‑wide AI initiative to foster collaboration across campus.
- Advocate for the department within the university and in the broader academic and industrial communities.
- Facilitate effective communication among faculty, students, and university leadership.
- Doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (required).
- Proven leadership experience in an academic or research setting, with a track record of building collaborative, high‑performing teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in developing undergraduate and graduate curricula.
- Experience in securing multidisciplinary, federally, and industry‑funded research projects.
