Job Summary: The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. We are seeking highly qualified candidates with expertise in bioengineering or physics, with a particular focus on MRI physics and operations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with the University’s advanced imaging facilities, which include a state-of-the‑art 3 Tesla MRI and a forthcoming 7 Tesla MRI system.
The candidate should have a strong research background in brain and body imaging, and we are particularly interested in those with experience in developing new MRI sequences, translating basic research into clinical applications, and conducting high‑impact translational research.
- Conduct cutting‑edge research in MRI physics, including sequence development and optimization for brain and body imaging.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the University of South Carolina and affiliated medical institutions, including Prisma Health.
- Develop a robust, externally funded research program.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering, MRI physics, and related areas.
- Mentor students at all levels, from undergraduate to PhD.
- Contribute to departmental and university service.
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in MRI physics, operations, and imaging technology.
- Proven track record of peer‑reviewed publications in high‑impact journals.
- Strong potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
- Commitment to teaching and mentorship at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience with advanced MRI systems, including 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla, is highly desirable.
- Expertise in developing MRI sequences and techniques.
- Experience with translational research and collaboration with clinical researchers.
- Experience with multimodal imaging or integration with other imaging techniques.
