POSITION TITLE: Director of Christian Education and Family Ministries

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Senior Pastor

PURPOSE: To develop and implement vibrant multigenerational ministries at Platt Springs United Methodist Church, Springdale, SC in coordination with the senior pastor

• Exhibits ability to successfully solicit, equip, and facilitate volunteers in ministry
• Able to apply knowledge and experience in the areas of children’s, youth, and family ministries
• Demonstrates a familiarity with mainline Christian theology, particularly the United Methodist Tradition
• Exhibits an operational understanding of financial budgeting and fundraising
• Communicates and teaches effectively
• Has skills and experience in evangelism, new member recruitment, and membership growth
• Self motivating

EDUCATION: Minimum requirement is a high school diploma and 5 years area work experience; however, an undergraduate degree with experience is preferred

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Form, equip, and manage volunteer teams to develop and maintain vital children’s (ages 0-12), youth (13-18), and family ministries in our local communities
• Coordinate with our local educational and community institutions to provide opportunities for spiritual education and growth in our local communities
• Design and implement opportunities for families that connect our local communities to the ministries of Platt Springs United Methodist Church
• In conjunction with the senior pastor, plan and implement a program of spiritual formation for our family ministries
• Manage finances for ministry areas related to children’s, youth, and family ministries
• Participate in the creative worship planning process, staff meetings, and church council meetings as appropriate
• Be present for Worship services and Sunday school on Sundays and special days (Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week), Wednesday evening activities, and VBS. In addition, participate in regular supervisory meetings, as determined by the pastor.
• Communicate area ministry needs to the congregation and church council, and maintain communication with parents and other stakeholders, so that everyone is informed about upcoming events, current curriculum, and training opportunities
• Ensure family ministries related church property is appropriately utilized and maintained
• Provide updates for the church calendar and bulletins with sufficient notice
• Other duties as assigned
