This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick

B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

This is a Temporary Part-Time position providing on-call coverage on nights, week-ends, and holidays. This posting is for three (3) positions.

Under general supervision, you will provide psychiatric and medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment services for psychiatric patients at Patrick

B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital (HPH). Performance of duty requires service as an on-call psychiatrist for Patrick

Responsibilities for the Temporary Psychiatrist:
  • Serve as on-call psychiatrist for HPH. Respond to calls from clinical staff regarding patient or other medical concerns. When in house as Officer of the Day/Officer of the Night, make daily lodge rounds to follow up on established medical or psychiatric concerns or to evaluate new medical or psychiatric concerns about HPH patients. Review charts to note medical, nursing, and other clinical service entries, vital signs, labs, and other clinical data to formulate assessment and treatment plan for psychiatric and medical problems.

    Order medications, labs, referrals, or other tests or treatments. Evaluate patient progress and render treatment as indicated.
  • Provide orders for the intervention when patients require seclusion or restraint. Perform LPP (Licensed Prescribing Practitioner) face to face evaluation when in the facility. Initiate any needed treatment to minimize the length or frequency of these interventions. Participate in debriefing or treatment team meetings when necessary.
  • Perform LPP admission assessments per HPH/Inpatient Services policy on patients newly admitted to HPH.
  • Maintain clinical competency by mastering required in-services or training, including MAPS/MANDT, CPR, and SCEIS training. Comply with South Carolina Office of Mental Health Compliance Plan and all legal responsibilities and requirements in performing job duties.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Carolina.
  • Completion of at least two years of residency (four years) in psychiatry.
  • Completion of full residency (four years) in psychiatry.
  • Board Certification in psychiatry strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Post Hire Requirements:
  • Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) / Mandt Training.
  • Be licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
  • Have thorough knowledge of principles and practices of psychiatric medicines, excellent knowledge of recent developments in Psychiatry.
  • Have the ability to practice within a case management system; ability to teach and supervise professional and technical personnel; skill at building work site and external liaisons and coalitions.
