Location(s): Columbia, SC (on-site) | Columbia VA Medical Center

Position Details
  • On-Call Coverage:
    • Rotating on-call coverage among providers
    • Minimum of one week per month, including weekends
    • Coverage required during evenings, weekends, holidays, and other times when the clinic is closed
  • On-Call Requirements:
    • Availability for phone consultation at all times
    • Must be reachable by phone within 15 minutes
    • Must be able to report on-site within 60 minutes when required
  • Full benefit program, including: health, PTO, & 401k + contribution
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
  • Active, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of an approved fellowship if providing subspecialty care (e.g., glaucoma).
Summary

CICONIX is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Ophthalmologist with glaucoma experience to support the Columbia VA Medical Center.

About the Role
  • Provide comprehensive ophthalmology services, including glaucoma-related care within scope of practice and privileging.
  • Deliver outpatient clinic care and consultative services.
  • Provide bedside consultations for non-ambulatory patients when required.
  • Perform surgical and procedural services within approved clinical privileges.
  • Document all patient care in the VA electronic health record.
  • Comply with VA medication, privacy, and patient safety policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and performance evaluation activities.
Qualifications
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
  • Licensure & Certifications (Current & Unrestricted):
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible through the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).
    • Active, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience:
    • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Ophthalmology residency.
    • Completion of an approved fellowship if providing subspecialty care (e.g., glaucoma).
  • Security & Background Check:
    • U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Willingness to comply with the government vaccination requirements, reflected of CDC guidelines.

This role is contingent and will begin upon contract award.
