Director of Music- Rehoboth UMC – Columbia, SC

Rehoboth UMC is seeking a part-time, experienced individual to serve as Director of Music and accompanist. Rehoboth UMC is located at 6911 Two Notch Road in Columbia, SC.

The Director of Music will work with the senior Pastor to plan music for weekly worship services, as well as special services throughout the year. The Director of Music will be instrumental in the development, growth and support of the music program.

Requirements:

• Music degree preferred
• Past experience as accompanist in a church setting
• Proficient on organ and piano
• Dependable and enthusiastic

Primary responsibilities include:

Direct, grow and support the music program; schedule and support regularly scheduled weekly choir rehearsals; support extra rehearsals for seasonal programs, special programs and individual rehearsals with soloists, ensembles and guest musicians, as needed; work with Pastor to plan prelude, postlude, hymns, anthems, choral responses, communion music; offertory, and special music for weekly services; provide accompaniment for choir and congregation during weekly worship and special services;

provide and/or coordinate music for weddings, memorial services and funerals; find creative ways to recruit choir members; and participate in ongoing education / music workshops, etc.

Administrative duties include attending worship committee and leadership team meetings and maintain a music library. Piano and/or organ tuning is to be coordinated with Rehoboth Trustees This position must also be responsible for coordinating a backup musician when taking scheduled time off.
