ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: OFFICE OF APPELLATE DEFENSE

Under the supervision of the Administrative Coordinator, perform legal secretarial and administrative duties including, but not limited to:

  • Compose and prepare correspondence, documents, and other materials as assigned by respective attorneys.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations and formats required for legal documents.
  • Proofread documents to verify the accuracy and completeness of citations and references for legal correspondence and documents.
  • Maintain calendars for respective attorneys of scheduled appointments, conferences and hearings.
  • Maintain calendars for deadlines to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals for filings of pleadings.
  • Must be completely familiar with time requirements set on each case by the Courts and take full responsibility for informing designated attorneys of these deadlines.
  • Must give adequate notice to the attorney in order to ensure completion of filings before the applicable deadlines.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer word processing software and case management database.
  • Maintain daily tickler systems and complete set-up and maintenance of filing systems for assigned cases.
  • Communicate with the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
  • High school diploma
  • A valid drivers license
  • Associate's Degree or Technical College Degree in Secretarial Science, Legal Administrative Assistant, or similar field
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and legal documents
  • Work experience in a law office or other legal environment
  • Command of the English language with strong comprehension and writing skills
  • Proficient keyboarding skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

May be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
