Overview

The Lead Surgical Clinical Office Assistant (COA) is responsible for assisting Practice Supervisors, Assistant Director, and Director with the assignment of duties, training, and performance evaluations of other Surgical COAs and other clinic staff. The Lead Surgical COA will also perform multiple duties within the clinical setting to facilitate the smooth operation of a medical office and related surgical activities. Duties include coordinating patient appointments, surgeries, and ancillary testing, providing academic support and/or transcription support, and acting as an interface between surgeons and patients.

In UVMMC Orthopedics, the Surgical COA Lead will be responsible for helping lead the coordination of operating room time across the department in accordance with established guidelines and processes, and may be involved in ongoing efforts to improve department guidelines and processes. The Surgical COA Lead will serve as the primary point of contact for OR Scheduling (central surgical scheduling at UVMMC).

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient appointments, surgeries, and ancillary testing to support clinical operations.
  • Assist Practice Supervisors, Assistant Director, and Director with the assignment of duties, training, and performance evaluations of Surgical COAs and other clinic staff.
  • Provide academic support and/or transcription support as needed.
  • Act as an interface between surgeons and patients to facilitate communication and care.
  • Lead coordination of operating room time across the department in accordance with established guidelines and processes (UVMMC Orthopedics).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for OR Scheduling (central surgical scheduling at UVMMC).
Qualifications
  • Education:

    H.S. diploma with equivalent college coursework in the secretarial or medical sciences preferred.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of five (5) years medical office experience, including at least one (1) year as a Surgical Clinical Office Assistant.
