We are seeking an accomplished and self-motivated Research Engineer - Plasma Equipment to join our R&D team. The successful candidate will work closely with the scientific and technical team on the design and operations of our next-generation plasma experiments for materials processing. This role will take primary responsibility for conducting plasma experiments and requires advanced knowledge of plasma physics, a strong problem-solving mindset, and a collaborative approach to overcoming technical challenges.
WHATWILL YOU BE WORKING ON
- Design and prepare experimental test plans and procedures on the PNE plasma devices under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), ensuring alignment with R&D project objectives.
- Operate plasma devices and systems to carry out experimental campaigns.
- Develop and validate technical specifications to meet project requirements.
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data and results to guide engineering upgrades, access the strengths and weaknesses of various technical solutions, and troubleshoot challenges in plasma performance.
- Develop and update operating procedures and safety plans as required by experimental protocols.
- Prepare and present research findings through written reports, briefings, and progress reports for PI.
- Write periodic progress reports to document experimental milestones and insights.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant technical literature and advancements in plasma physics and related fields.
- Perform other duties as assigned, actively contributing to the success of the R&D team.
- Ph.D. in plasma physics or a related field, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on research experience with plasma physics experiments and equipment diagnostics.
- Familiar to plasma systems as well as compliance and safety protocols.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, explain complex technical information clearly, and provide insights to PI.
- Proficiency with data analysis software and statistical methods.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- This is an on-site position in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
- Able to work in the lab environment and wear personal protective equipment, including lab coat, safety goggles, gloves, and/or mask, and respirator as required.
- Able to lift & carry 25 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Has visual inspection capability to assess lab equipment.
