Summary

The local shuttle driver will be responsible for executing local deliveries within a 50-mile radius with a 26 ft box truck with the utmost care, professionalism, and accuracy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate 26' box truck safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and the Department of Transportation
  • Accurately and efficiently load and unload cargo, often using a manual or powered pallet jack
  • Backs truck to customer dock
  • Maintains compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe and professional driving behavior
  • Communicates with customer representatives in pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner
  • Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers
  • Complies with all DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing)
  • Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle
  • Ensure that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications & Work Experience
  • CDL A License Required
  • A minimum of 2 years CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years. 3+ years CDL A driving experience preferred
  • Meet D.O.T. qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41
  • Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle sensitive cargo with care
  • Detail-oriented mindset
  • Must have a TWIC or eligible to obtain a TWIC card within 90 days, if required
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of a shuttle driver, the employee is required to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle. The role also requires reaching with hands and arms, climbing in and out of the cab and trailer, and occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch during inspections, coupling/uncoupling, or loading/unloading activities. Vision requirements include distance and close vision for safe driving and reading documents.

  • Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1-125 pounds
  • Lifts up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent reaching for freight at various heights
  • Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals (not applicable on all trucks)
  • Frequent squatting or crouching to handle freight
  • Climb in and out of the truck 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times daily with assistance
  • Conduct pre-trip inspection; fuel vehicles and perform basic maintenance
  • Stand/walk limitations: at least 5% standing and 5% walking; surfaces may be slippery or wet
  • Reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for controls
Work Environment

Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions. Work primarily inside the truck cab and at customer sites, terminals, or public roadways. Noise levels vary from quiet to loud depending on location.

Pay

Base pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour, plus a $2.00/hour shift differential for overnight shifts. Actual base compensation determined by knowledge, location, skills, experience, and other factors.
