Overview
Reports to the Director of Environmental Services. Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor, prepares, paints and maintains interior surfaces and structures of various types and conditions for the purpose of extending the life of and improving the appearance of painted or sealed surfaces. Works independently as assigned.

- Removing articles from walls, removing furniture and equipment and replacing items upon completion. Provides adequate protection if unable to remove items.
- Preparing various surfaces for painting by making minor repairs, dusting, washing, scraping, sanding, filling or other means as necessary.
- Mixing, matching and blending various paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, stains and special protective coatings to achieve desired color, consistency, and drying properties.
- Setting up and operating sanders, sprayers and various painting tools and equipment.
- Applying primers and finish coats with brushes, spray machines, rollers or other applicators.
- Erecting and moving ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
- Purchasing paint, equipment and supplies.
- Cleaning, storing and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Safely storing and labeling all materials.
- Practicing and following safety regulations which may include wearing protective clothing and equipment (i.e., safety goggles, masks, protective hat, coveralls, etc.).
- Cleaning work area to provide a safe and organized work environment.
- Performing duties of Environmental Associate as needed.
- Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Continuing to stay abreast of changing technologies, procedures, and new product items by reading appropriate trade journals, safety codes, and operating manuals.
- Organizing work orders and reporting to the Director on plans to accomplish all work orders and progress.
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established time frames.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established time frames.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years experience in Commercial painting is required, preferably in healthcare. Graduation from an accredited painting training/apprenticeship program or certificate in painting is desired.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of methods, materials, mathematics, tools, equipment, techniques and safety regulations associated with the painting trade.
- Demonstrates ability to operate standard hand and power tools and equipment used in painting activities in a safe, efficient manner.
- Requires good eyesight and attention to detail.
- Requires ability to mix, match and blend paints to desired color, consistency, and drying properties.
- Requires ability to work from ladders, platforms, and hard to reach areas.
- Requires knowledge of safety standards/precautions pertaining to painting and ability to read and follow MSDS recommendations and requirements.
- Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read, understand and interpret work orders, equipment, materials (paint cans) and work instructions to complete tasks.
- Demonstrates good organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize workload.

- Requires the ability to work flexible hours.
- Working at various heights and confined spaces to perform tasks.
- Work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods of time.
