South Bend Orthopaedics is currently searching for a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Under the supervision of a physical therapist, implements and coordinates treatment plans for patients.
  • Observes patient status and recommends changes in plan as appropriate.
  • Instructs patients in home exercise program.
  • Operates within safety, infection and environmental control policies and procedures for physical therapy.
  • Fits and instructs patients in the use and care of durable medical equipment as prescribed by the physician, and accurately completes paperwork for billing.
  • Provides coverage at other SBO locations as needed.
  • Stays current in their respective field through reading professional literature and attending continuing education offerings, certifications per the IN PTA State Licensure requirements.
  • Attends meetings and in‑services as required.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required which may include office and or compliance duties to aid in the ongoing regulatory requirements within the department.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge and understanding of SBO’s policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy compliance.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, applications, and office equipment.
  • Knowledge and application of infection control and safety policies and procedures to establish/maintain a safe working environment.
  • Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of physical therapy principles, standards of practice, and applications.
  • Must be highly organized with strong time management skills.
  • Exhibits a strong work ethic, dependability, flexibility, a good sense of judgement and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and organize/prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Ability to follow policies, protocols, and procedures for patient care.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant program; licensed as a physical therapist assistant in the State of Indiana.

Experience: Minimum of two years experience in orthopedics preferred. New graduates considered.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
  • Requires range of motion within normal limits for spine and all extremities.
  • May require prolonged sitting, standing, and walking, as well as frequent bending and kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers safely.
  • Requires the ability to perform a variety of therapeutic exercises, joint mobilizations and manual resistance for strength testing and training.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Combination of office and treatment areas. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic setting. Exposure to electrical equipment and cleaning solutions. Frequent contact with staff, patients, and visitors. Work may be stressful eractions with others are constant and interruptive.

SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday, 35‑40 hours per week (Full-time).

EXPERIENCE (Preferred)

Orthopedics: 2 years (Preferred).
