You’ll Do

As a Unit Clerk, you’ll support the daily operations of the patient care unit by performing receptionist and general clerical duties that keep the unit running smoothly. Reporting to the Director of Patient Care Services, you’ll serve as a key point of contact for staff, patients, and visitors while assisting with basic patient care activities as needed. Your responsibilities will vary by unit assignment and are focused on supporting the care team and ensuring efficient, organized patient care delivery.

Job Responsibilities
  • Greet and screen all visitors, patients, staff, and physicians, controlling access to a locked unit and filtering all entry and exit.
  • Monitor telecommunications and video systems to ensure unit security and awareness at all times.
  • Answer phones promptly and professionally, routing calls and relaying messages accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform general administrative and assistant duties, including filing, copying, stocking supplies, and machine auditing.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain patient charts for admissions, transfers, discharges, and procedures.
  • Monitor printers, fax machines, and electronic systems, communicating medical record information as needed.
  • Transcribe and enter physician orders into the hospital information system accurately and efficiently.
  • Enter and reconcile charges, transfers, discharges, and other required data within established time frames.
  • Inventory, order, restock, and check supplies, including monitoring for outdated or missing items.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of clerical work spaces and supply areas.
  • Request maintenance, repairs, or services from Environmental Services, Plant Engineering, Biomedical, or Communications as needed.
  • Conduct frequent machine and system auditing, with significant auditing responsibilities during night shifts.
  • Comply with organizational policies, mandatory education, meetings, regulatory requirements, scheduling flexibility, and all department standards.

Note:

This role involves no direct patient care and is focused on administrative support, unit security, and operational efficiency.
