Senior Quality Engineer (Project Management)

The Senior Quality Engineer is charged with ensuring all plans, methods, and controls are in place to repeatedly produce products that meet our customers’ needs. The Senior Quality Engineer is instrumental in engineering quality into process plans, manufacturing operations, the supply chain, and in investigating system failures.

This job description provides an overview of the primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are expected to assist in similar duties when management deems it necessary. Special projects and activities may be created where employees’ talents can be best utilized. General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization responding to an ever‑changing market; tasks and requirements may change from time to time, and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

The Senior Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager.

• Manage quality assurance, non‑conformance, and corrective action processes.
• Provide expert risk analysis and problem‑solving skills for customer, supplier, and manufacturing quality issues.
• Participate in design reviews, product launch, and manufacturing processes to ensure quality requirements are incorporated from the early stages.
• Prepare and review qualification packages (FAI, Gage R&R, PFMEA, capability studies, control plans, process validation).
• Lead teams through issue identification, root cause analysis, and verified corrective actions using 8D, 5‑Why, fishbone, and process maps.
• Lead development and validation activities and improve supplier quality performance.
• Ensure timely supplier failure resolution with corrective and preventive actions.
• Define incoming inspection needs for supplier materials.
• Assess and improve internal/external process capability.
• Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and the customer to assure products meet requirements.
• Work directly with Engineering and Production to develop and validate tooling and processes.
• Minimize risk through use of appropriate risk assessment tools and verification of robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.
• Provide quality support to technical and manufacturing teams, and drive/support daily operations.
• Demonstrate practical understanding of manufacturing processes to objectively and independently analyze problems, communicate effectively, and facilitate problem solving activities.
• Develop and evaluate corrective and preventative actions in response to customer complaints.

Senior Quality Engineers are expected to work independently, managing time and priorities accordingly, and effectively communicate with external and internal customers. They should work efficiently and effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and be available to work extended hours and weekends if necessary.
