The Collections & Metadata Specialist is responsible for maintaining the physical and descriptive integrity of the library’s general collections to support teaching, learning, and research, in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic plan.

This position ensures that the library’s general collections are properly arranged, stored, and preserved so they remain accessible to patrons. Tasks include processing new acquisitions, overseeing shelving, supervising staff, and maintaining accurate bibliographic records to enhance discoverability and support the library’s collections.

Duties
  • Facilitate collection maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include supporting deaccessioning and shifting projects, handling the processing of donations, completing book repair, maintaining stack signage, shelving order and cleaning, locating and requesting replacements for missing materials, and working on other special projects at Payson and the Library Collections Annex Facility, with occasional work at other campus libraries.
  • Receive and copy catalog library materials across print and electronic formats.

    Responsibilities include:

    receiving, invoicing, processing in WMS, and attaching existing bibliographic records (sometimes with modifications) or requesting new bibliographic records from a cataloguer.
  • Manage student employees in technical services workflows. Responsibilities include training and supervising student work with shelving, processing new books and other physical library materials, managing materials inventory, and various data cleanup projects.
  • Assist with interlibrary loan and acquisitions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission and Libraries' core values through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum two years of college and evidence of progressively increasing responsibility in detail-oriented work.
  • An appreciation for and commitment to the university’s Christian mission and a desire to contribute actively to that mission.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and emotional intelligence; strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of bibliographic data.
  • Ability to perform detailed work; ability to work independently and as a team member; keen attention to detail and aptitude for speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and move loaded book carts.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Preferred:

  • 4-year college degree.
  • Previous experience in an academic library environment.
  • Experience with WMS or other integrated library systems.
  • Knowledge of Excel functions; MARC 21 and RDA.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $25.00 - $26.44 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
