The Department of Physical Sciences at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a full-time lecturer position starting August 1, 2026. The teaching load is equivalent to 12 credit hours of undergraduate coursework each semester (fall and spring). The successful candidate will be expected to teach freshman and sophomore level lectures and laboratories in astronomy, geology, and physics with the opportunity to teach advanced classes in the candidate’s area of expertise occasionally.
Some courses taught may be offered evenings, off-site, and/or online. Summer teaching is voluntary and compensated separately. Lecturers are expected to participate in service activities to the department, school, campus, or community, such as regularly attending and participating in faculty meetings and serving on relevant committees. This position does not carry any expectations for a research program or publications.
- Teach freshman and sophomore level lectures and laboratories in astronomy, geology, and physics.
- Occasionally teach advanced classes in the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Provide courses that may be offered in the evenings, off-site, or online.
- Fulfill a teaching load of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester (fall and spring).
- Participate in service activities within the department, school, campus, or community, including regular attendance at faculty meetings and serving on committees.
- Summer teaching may be available as voluntary and separately compensated.

This position does not require a research program or publications.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Physics, Geology, or closely related field (ABD candidates may apply but all requirements must be completed by August 1, 2026).
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively in our department and within the university.
Preferred Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Physics, Geophysics, or Astrophysics.
- Strong evidence of teaching ability/potential and interest.
- Experience with guiding outreach and undergraduate research projects.
- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

Additional QualificationsPreference will be given to candidates who are able to teach a wide variety of courses in the Physical Sciences, including geology, astronomy, and instrumentation courses.
