A Unique Creative Role Where Automotive Knowledge Matters
About UsRound 2 LLC. is an innovative collectibles company based in South Bend, Indiana. We specialize in plastic model kits, die-cast replicas, electric slot cars, and model train accessories. Our family of brands includes AMT®, MPC®, Hawk/Lindberg, Polar Lights®, Auto World®, American Muscle, Johnny Lightning, Racing Champions, and Classic Metal Works.
OverviewThis is a rare, automotive-focused creative role in a product category where packaging is inseparable from the collectible itself. A strong understanding of automobiles and automotive culture is critical
—these packages are designed for enthusiasts who know cars and care deeply about authenticity.
We are seeking a Packaging Designer who would enjoy working on our historic lines of die-cast and/or model kit lines where they would collaborate on physical products and solving real design challenges. The work is hands‑on, collaborative, and fun
, with the satisfaction of seeing finished products collectors are excited to collect, build, and display.
For the right candidate, this role offers a clear path beyond packaging into influence over product choices and supervision of new vehicle collectible development
.
Opportunities to work closely with collectible vehicles, tooling, and manufacturing partners are uncommon—particularly outside major automotive or design hubs—making this a very rare local role and a position worth relocating for if the product space excites you.
What Makes This Role Unique- Packaging is treated as part of the collector experience, not disposable graphics
- Designers interact directly with products, builds, and assembly processes
- Direct communication with overseas production partners
- Opportunity to grow into product supervision and development influence
Work on products that are nostalgic, enthusiast‑driven, and fun
- Own packaging design from concept through production for automotive vehicle collectibles
- Develop packaging that balances brand identity, nostalgia, and modern design sensibilities
- Create production‑ready files including graphics, typography, layouts, and sometimes dielines
- Communicate directly with overseas production partners
- Review and approve print proofs, color samples, and production outputs
- Creatively problem‑solve print, material, and production challenges
- Design supporting materials such as car deco, inserts, assembly guides, and promotional assets
- Execute and manage basic product photography for packaging and marketing use
- Assemble test shots and prototypes to evaluate build quality and assembly clarity
- Identify improvements to assembly guides and packaging flow
- Manage multiple projects across various development stages
- Meet deadlines while handling several ongoing projects
- For designers who demonstrate the right abilities: gain influence over product decisions and participate in supervising new vehicle collectible development, helping shape the goods themselves—not just the packaging
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
- Ability to creatively problem‑solve within real‑world production constraints
- Moderate hands‑on construction or assembly skills
- Strong knowledge of automobiles and automotive culture
- Familiarity with vehicle collectibles such as die‑cast cars or model kits
- High attention to detail and production accuracy
- Clear communication and collaborative mindset
These skills are beneficial but not required
:
- Experience with consumer product or packaging design
- Print production expertise
- Experience working with overseas manufacturers
- Copywriting for packaging or product messaging
- Polished illustration skills, especially automotive
- Advanced product photography
- Background in toys, vehicle collectibles, or hobby products
- Broad pop culture knowledge including pop music, entertainment, animation, gaming, science fiction etc.
- Rare opportunity to work on automotive vehicle collectibles
- Hands‑on involvement with real products collectors’ care about
- Path toward broader product development influence
- A creative role that is challenging, rewarding, and genuinely fun
