SUMMARYThe City of South Bend’s Venue Parks and Arts team is seeking a friendly, proactive, and community-oriented individual to join our team as a Visitor Engagement Ambassador. This role is essential in fostering a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for our visitors, residents, and local business owners across our public spaces.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Welcoming & Wayfinding- Greet visitors and residents at key city locations, venue entry points or event spaces
- Offer directions to amenities such as dining, shops, restrooms, playgrounds, or event spaces
- Provide information about upcoming events, park features or local activities/dining facilities
- Engage with community members and visitors to provide information, assistance, and a positive experience
- Seek feedback from visitors and communicate accordingly to improve experiences
- Walk through business districts and public plazas to check in with shop owners
- Act as a friendly, mobile presence that helps people feel safe and welcome
- Assist with setup and breakdown of events as needed
- Help manage lines or crowd flow during busy event times
- Engage with event participants
- Collect litter while chatting with passersby
- Water flowers while connecting with city visitors
- Sweep sidewalks and remind people about trash/recycling efforts
- Report any issues related to safety, cleanliness or infrastructure
Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; enjoys engaging with the public.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to creating a welcoming environment.
- Previous experience in hospitality, customer service, or community engagement is a plus.
- High School Diploma or combination of education and experience required
- Physically able to perform light maintenance tasks and remain mobile throughout the shift.
- Ability to perform visual inspections of facilities and patrons
- Ability to learn and educate the public about city guidelines, park ordinances, and other essential materials
- Requires walking, standing, and light physical activity in various weather conditions.
- Security, safety, de-escalation techniques, hospitality, and customer assistance.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- iPad, camera, custodial tools, and misc. hand tools.
