Position Overview
The Payroll Supervisor leads a team of payroll processors responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely end‑to‑end payroll services across weekly, biweekly, and monthly payroll cycles. This role oversees day‑to‑day payroll operations while driving continuous improvement, standardization, and strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a high‑performing payroll team through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Oversee end‑to‑end payroll operations for 26 legal entities while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Partner cross‑functionally with HR and other stakeholders to maintain accurate employee data, benefits, deductions, and compensation structures.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues, providing expert guidance on wage, tax, and compliance matters.
- Manage specialized and off‑cycle payrolls, including stock transactions, relocations, shadow payroll, and incentive payouts.
- Maintain strong system knowledge to support configuration, troubleshooting, updates, and testing.
- Drive continuous improvement by monitoring KPIs, identifying process efficiencies, enhancing controls, and supporting internal and external audits.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of high‑volume payroll processing experience for an organization with at least 5,000 employees and multiple legal entities.
- At least two (2) years of supervisory or team lead experience.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred (Payroll Org).
Skills and Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local wage, hour, and tax laws.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex payroll and tax scenarios.
- Excellent leadership abilities, including coaching, staff development, and conflict resolution skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across departments and with external partners.
- Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data validation) preferred.
- Experience with Dayforce payroll is a plus.
- Ability to understand payroll system configurations, integrations, and data flows.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information.
